Jeremy Lin Builds Team Unity via Texting

When guard Jeremy Lin came up with a sore elbow, he joked it could have been from excessive playing of video games.

Teammate Terrence Jones offered another possible source. Less than a week after Jones returned from the NBA Development League and earned a place in the power forward rotation, Jones said Lin had sent text messages to him and other Rockets players sent to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers throughout their time in the D-League.

“He texted me after almost every game, especially if I did good,” Jones said. “I texted him after his games, too, when I was down there. I talked to James (Harden) after almost every game. A lot of guys checked with me, but J-Lin especially. J-Lin was always texting everybody. J-Lin texted me every game pretty much every time I went down.

“It definitely helped to know he was watching, my teammates were cheering for me to do well down there. It means a lot.”

Lin said he made a point to keep up with the play of his teammates in the D-League and to let them know they had not been forgotten.

“I’ve been in those shoes before,” Lin said. “I know what it’s like. A little something like that, keeping up with them, making sure they feel a part of the team and giving them that confidence — I think that’s really important for their growth as a player.”

I think for me, I still remember the D-League like yesterday. I still try to encourage them. Anything I can do to help them, I try to do.”

Parsons close
to returning

Forward Chandler Parsons, the Rockets’ second-leading scorer and rebounder, said he hopes to play Tuesday against Phoenix at home after feeling better following two games out with a strained right calf.

“I was much better (Saturday),” Parsons said. “I did a little cardio, shot free throws. I’ll come in, do some rehab and try to get a workout in, and then hopefully I can practice on Monday.

“Obviously, I want to play, especially when we play like we did (on Saturday). I think I could help the team. And it’s starting to feel better. It’s not as sore, not as tender to the touch.”

Harden unaware
of record run

Because he was unaware he was approaching the franchise record for free throws in a season, guard James Harden said he would wait to consider it now that his 10 free throws Saturday gave him 631, surpassing Moses Malone’s total in 1981-82.

“It’s a good individual accomplishment,” he said. “I’ll probably think about it toward the end of my career, but as of now, I try to go out there and just compete. I didn’t know.”
